Better than expected due to low expectations after seeing other reviews. Indeed, while the facilities and cleanliness are not the best, they have their own charm and authentic feel. Walls are thin, sure, my friend was kept up by the snoring of a dude from the other room. A tiny cockroach crawled on the table, and while lying down watching TV, a spider crawled onto my hand. It definitely may gross some people out, but to me, that's part of the experience.

Traditional Japanese hotel. Pretty nice all things considered but the walls are pretty damn thin.

Great service and hot spring, although the place is a little old. Food is great for the price, for sure a replacement if u struggle to book for the onsens up the Gora mountain.

In This Ryokan I tasted the real Japan. The staff is mostly elderly and this gives a note of authenticity and respect for the traditions. The room was very spacious and equipped with bath with external thermal water. The shower is only outside in a thermal optics. Some details would need a modernized but overall the standard of cleanliness and quality is high. The real reason to come here is the food and the way it is served directly in the room.

Most beautiful hotel I ever stay. Very peaceful and calming garden. All the lovely ladies that serve us makes it one of the highlight during our stay. The room is very spacious and clean with great decorations that provides it a "i have seen it in a Japanese movie" vibe.

This hotel is just amazing. First the rooms are very large and very comfortable. The beds and pillows are very comfortable, there is an electronic heated toilet. And the bath is great as well. The beds are all single but you can move them and make it a double bed. Air condition is working nice. There is a fridge, and a television. Some rooms have nice balcony as well. The dinner and breakfast is very good with many options and everything is very tasty. There are smoking area around the hotel.

We had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The location is excellent, and the service is outstanding. The honeymoon reception was exceptional, making our experience even more special. The hotel is spotless, and the housekeeping is top-notch. I highly recommend this place! The onsens were great, and I would definitely recommend them too!

The Hakone Gora Kuraku hotel exceeded all my expectations, making it one of the most memorable stays I've had. From its pristine cleanliness to its sleek modern design, every aspect of the hotel exuded sophistication. The staff's unwavering attentiveness further elevated the experience, ensuring that every need was met with care and efficiency. Despite the premium price tag, the lavishness of the experience justifies the cost entirely.

Spent three nights here with our 5 yo. The staff are fantastic & super helpful and my kid loves the challenge they given. Rooftop view was a surprise.
Location is good and it’s about 1600 yen cab ride from the main station.
Room was great and convenient with washer in the room. Overall we had a great experience with our stay here.

Wonderful friendly staff, with excellent English to assist English speaking visitors. Staff provide very helpful local tips on places to visit & transport options.
Location was excellent. A nice 10 minute walk to Nijo Castle.
Rooms spacious and beds comfortable. Cleaning staff do a great job.
Washing machine/dryer in room a great bonus.

Can’t fault this beautiful hotel. Stayed here for 6 nights and loved every minute of it! Hotel staff were always there to help should you need it. Rooms were well sized, bed was super comfy! Sake in the hotel lobby everyday from 5pm (Free for guests) what more could you want! A 15 minute walk to the main streets of Kyoto!

Photos. You have seen the photos of the premises and rooms from the other reviewers. I am attaching the ones with the mold found in the tub.
Some of the 1 and 2 star reviews are not entirely incorrect. The reception service staff can be more welcoming and speak a little more English. BUT given said that, I didn’t have issues with mine. Except the luggage was delivered to the incorrect room (means I had someone else’s)
But the housekeeping was the best. Very well made room daily!

Absolutely loved my stay at Hotel Shinkisai Jyoti! The rooms are stylish, cozy, and incredibly spacious, offering a unique and comfortable experience. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay memorable, providing excellent assistance whenever needed. Although breakfast isn't served onsite, there are plenty of affordable options nearby. Highly recommend this boutique hotel for a fantastic stay in the area!

Small, boutique hotel. Lovely people at the front desk. The rooms are a combination of western-style comfort, sign a bit of traditional culture as well. Comfortable and well-priced. Walking distance to a local train station as well.

Wonderfull place if u want to experience classic Japanese house that is in good shape. Staff speaks really good english and supper helpful if needed also super friendly just to chat.
Dont come here if u are a sensitive sleeper, since walls are thin, so you can mostly hear what other guests are talking. But no sound from outside.
Location is good, near public bath house, super market, metro.
Realy recomend for japan lovers!

They were so kind and helpful. The staff is wonderful. The place is comfortable, very clean and with nice common areas. The garden and the flower arrangements are lovely! Sound insulation could improve but that's just nit picking. Totally recommended.
