So very clean great spot everything in walking distance!

It was a perfect location for downtown San Diego, close to restaurants, bars, the bay. Staff was friendly, rooms were very clean and quiet and the breakfast was yummy! We plan on staying there on our vacations in San Diego.

A bit dated but good location breakfast awesome staff nice will come back.

Great Downtown location and you can't beat the price!

Many outlets in the room are so worn plugging in anything doesn't work unless you twist and hold it. To make matters worse there aren't many outlets in the room. They started closing the breakfast early so if you are here don't expect to come down at 928 and get breakfast.

The location and the bargain price are attractive, but the hotel is a bit dated. Elevator was as slow as molasses with a 4 story building and the bed honestly made my back feel sore for a week or so after. I'd probably consider paying a little more just for the sake of being able to walk after a night's sleep.

Very comfortable room layout and staff members. Parking is really simple and there's plenty to do around the hotel. The rental scooters make it a breeze to get around so you don't even have to drive!

This is a nice budget hotel working hard at being upscale… And pulling it off surprisingly well. Mostly do to the very friendly and helpful staff.

Clean room and staff were great. Noise from the street was pretty loud. Hotel povides ear plugs, which is nice. Ceiling fan was perfect to help the window AC unit.

I can't say enough nice things about this hotel. My wife and I book a room with the comfort inn for comic Con every year. We have been here for 8 years and love that we see the same people every year staying here too. Free breakfast. Free Wi-Fi. Free pizza parties and drinks during comic Con week. Great location and a decently sized room with microwave and fridge means we can save money by staying here.

In the heart of gaslamp quarter and so close to all the bars and restaurants and night life. Very accessible bus and train stations, very reasonable and the cheapest parking in downtown compared to other hotels. The staff is so friendly and polite and very helpful. They even checked us in early coz we drove all night to reach there. The breakfast is fresh and clean.

I have no idea how this place has gotten as many stars as it has. Dingy, depressing, dirty. I couldn’t believe how TINY the rooms are. So tiny that the bathroom sink is not in the same room as the bathroom. Don’t be fooled by the pictures like I was. This place absolutely feels like a s**thole. Avoid it if you possibly can.

Did not enjoy our stay here but thankfully it was only two nights. The good: The location was good if you are interested in gaslamp, we walked to restaurants which was nice. They let us check in early which is always appreciated. The breakfast was also decent, the usual continental stuff. Appreciated that coffee, tea and flavored water were available all day. The bad: The room itself was TINY. The bathroom sink was about a foot from the bed and right next to the head of whoever was sleeping there, very strange and annoying if someone needed to use it in the middle of the night. There was no central air, it was a tiny air conditioner in the window. The hallways smelled like urine. Our room was on a corner facing a busy street with drunk people walking by. Lastly, we just didn't feel very safe or secure and were worried about leaving valuables in the room unattended.

Here for work and got absolutely no sleep. It is extremely loud all night. Rooms are ugly. TV's have poor picture. Bathroom is tiny. It's 300 a night. I have stayed in much nicer hotels for less than 100. Nothing good to say about this place.

Nice location and staff. However, the hotel is not perfect and has awkward odor in the bed, very small rooms, the washing kit next to bed. There are no varieties on breakfast buffet.

Nothing fancy, okay if you just want a landing place, but don't expect any luxury. Free breakfast but few vegan options and everything is served on plastic so it feels a bit low quality. Parking is at 24 dollars a night.

— LOCATION! Location alone is 4-5*. Right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarters downtown. Very lovely walkable paths, convenient, e-scooters and e-bike rentals on every corner. I even walked all the way to Seaport Village and back. Was nice and scenic.
— Breakfast included. Unlike some hotels that make you pay extra for breakfast.
— Decent basic amenities provided: business center, self-service laundry, gym access; note that the gym is not in the inn building, it's actually a couple blocks away in another building. You get free access with your inn card.
— Impressively high speed internet. I didn't expect this from 2-3* lodgings. Thumbs up there.
— My room had some odor issues, but the staff did their best to try to make me feel at home. There's not much they could do though because the entire building is quite old. But props to the staff for their hospitality and caring attitude.
— Price. It's unbeatably low. But yes, you get what you pay for. Still, if you're going to spend most of the day touring outside, this is a decent place to sleep at night. CONS:
— Old building. Dated layout. Sink in bedroom, right next to the bed.

Cold reception. Bed very small. Be prepared to pay 24 dollars for parking but be aware that there are much cheaper options in the neighborhood like 9 dollars or even 1 dollar per hour. On top of that parking is outside and unprotected.

Our room is infested with bedbugs, it is the 1 in the morning and they sent us to sleep to some bunks harder than the floor! A for work trip!

For the location and price, it was a good stay. If you need a spot to crash and get clean, this is the spot. Right off of the Gas Lamp Strip, great bars in a stone's throw.

It's a noisy location, that they have 2 sets of earplugs on dresser. My window was open when I came in on a crank handle. The toilet was leaking at the base and needed the handle to be jiggled to stop running. Was never able to find the heat, after closing the window. I called front desk to ask, but I gave up looking. Went to bed, and was bitten by bugs on torso, fire arms and butt. Called to front desk at 3:30am for a room change, if there was a renovated part. No room change, it was too late I was told. There wasn't a renovated part. Needs renovation and pest control. I told the desk person about being bitten by bugs. She suggested I had a reaction to laundry detergent. I said no, bugs. I had a flight to catch, so did not pursue. I won't stay here again or recommend this property. On Choice there was a 4 star rating. This was not a 4 star establishment.

Rooms are too small. Parking 10 dollar maximum capacity of 10 lots for the hotel. You will have to park at another unknown structure for $45 per night. I rather pay more next time for a better room and accessible parking.

One of the worst experience ever customer services 0… I reserved 2 room with two double beds when I get there they are telling me that they do not have room with two beds instead giving me a single bedroom extremely small and extremely uncomfortable and dirty. Next day spoke to manager, irresponsible manager with no sense of compassion or customer relation. Did not even gave us the AAA discount that originally when we made the reservation. I will never ever do business with this company Ever.

Clean, recently decorated. Excellent location to explore from. Car park cost additional $24 per night. Little loud at night from outside. Small double bed and loud fridge. Didn't use AC, but needed to warm the room. AC did not have heater, so a little cooler than usual. Shower was hot, reasonable water pressure. Breakfast included. Overall, a good cheaper option with excellent access to Gaslamp area.

Great location. Steps away from restaurants and bars. Rooms are small but well appointed. The only sink in my room was next to my bed which creates a challenge if your not alone. Window AC's are almost right on top of the bed and noisy. Try and avoid having a room facing the street. Lots of pedestrian and car noise till early morning.

Comfortable place with very good location…

I stayed here for 2 nights a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The room is basic but clean (get what you pay for) but there were little extras like in-room microwave and popcorn. Full breakfast complimentary (not just bagels and fruit). Staff were very friendly and efficient. Good location.

Expensive hotel for small rooms and very average cleanliness of the bathroom. The Wi-Fi however works well and the breakfast is more than OK.

Fantastic location right in the middle of the historic Gaslamp district. Plenty of restaurants in the area. The rooms are basic, but that’s expected with the low price. Good hot breakfast (eggs, sausages, waffles, pancakes, cereal, oatmeal and yogurt). Dining area was always packed, but they had plastic plates which can be taken to your room. Complimentary earplugs and popcorn in the room.

Good place for business stay, good internet and location.

Staff was helpful and courteous. This review is not about location, because pretty much that's all it is. I will only speak for my room. Cleanliness was good. The major complaint here is the bed! Firm pillows, mattress like a board. I woke up and my neck was locked up! This is a serious matter as the Hotels best interest should be for sleep comfort! Fortunately, there was a Thai massage business around the corner that both my wife and I had to go to for immediate day relief! I really believe if this would be looked into and resolved by hotel management, the Hotel ratings would increase!

Update* (I'll add one more star because on the Forth day, they gave us a discount and actually moved us to another room with working a/c. But not after my two year old niece tried to literally climb into the mini fridge for a respite from the heat. I'm still going to steer clear of at least this "comfort" inn, I might try a different one in the future. ) Free a/c, it maybe free but I does not work! We asked the front desk to fix the a/c, the maintenance man replaced the air filter, to no avail. We asked them again to fix it… and again. Asked to be moved to another room, no. Asked to have the a/c unit switched out, they said no, despite it being a cheap plug in window unit. It smelt really musty on the second day, so I'm pretty sure my family and I will contract legionnaires disease from faulty a/c maintenance. 1/10 would not stay there again. Pros: It has a bed and a bathroom. Free bottle of water Free breakfast Cons: Hot as heck 24/7 Poor customer service Poor maintenance Broken sink.

Hotel conveniently located right in the city centre close to restaurants and bars.
The only problem and the heat in the room and there is good on the aircon to cool down but a very annoying noise. So ideal for a night or two maximum.

According to American standards a good hotel, with ample private parking (surcharge)

Not even 1 star is deserved. It's not a good sign when on the counter as you enter your room is the FIRST time anyone mentions to you that you WILL NEED EAR PLUGS! Do you think that providing the ear plugs and a note stating that there is activity in the area 24 hours a day, is a is a solution for customer service? SAD, state for your company. I wonder why this wasn't mentioned earlier? Oh yeah, no one would stay there. Your hotel bed was harder than a rock! The musty smell was disgusting. The window air condition unit is very out dated and noisy! You provide shuttle service to the hotel from the airport but not from the hotel to the airport really $200 a night is not enough to cover that! Thank you for reminding me of the horrible stay, my next stop is to post on trip advisor and anywhere else to get the word out of your horrible and overpriced hotel!

Super small room. This isn't a 5 star hotel but it met our needs for an inexpensive hotel in walking distance to the 4th of July Big Bay Boom on the USS Midway. It was clean, had a microwave and mini-fridge. Great pillows and firm full size mattress. Free breakfast. If you're looking for a place to crash after a night on the town, this is your place.

Affordable and good location. Nice place to stay if you will be out and about all day. Parking is not free and was not explained at the time of booking. (Should have been able to assume since it is down town, but still would have been nice to get a heads up) was told there was a parking garage, but found out it was an open lot and not designated for the hotel. Evening staff clearly did not want to help and had attitude. Morning staff was really great and kind.

Very nice Clean rooms. Convenient and easy to find. Can be a little noisy at night being so close to bars and nightclubs but the AC and ear plugs they provide help drown out the noise. Breakfast was pretty good as well. A lot of choices from hot to cold breakfast items. Parking was $22 per night which is moderately priced.

I will never stay anywhere else in thus area. Absolute best price, lowest parking and best staff anywhere. Check in wasn't till 3pm but we were there at 1230 to see if we could park and have them watch our bags and our room was already ready! We were in the room for 30 minutes and got a call from the front desk to see if everything was to our liking… we have stayed many places and have never gotten a call like this. The morning breakfast is awesome, the room is fantastic and everyone if the staff that we have had contact with is polite, attentive and ready to please. This is hands down the best place I have ever stayed!

Paid for a room as a prepaid for 6 nights. When we arrived, the room was only being cooled by a small window unit you'd normally find in a trailer home. We complained about the lack of cooling to the hotel staff. They sent the maintenance guy up. He said he would try and find another window unit. We waited about 20 minutes then I went downstairs to see what was going on. I found the maintenance guy just talking to someone he knew, not worried about our room being so hot. I demanded my money back so I could leave and find another hotel. I was told I'd get a full refund if I left right then and there. We did. After we left, we got a phone call from Mike, the manager, stating that he changed his mind and he would not refund our money. I called choice hotel main office the next day to complain. I was told I would get a call back that Thursday to remedy the charges. I never got a call. I was refunded 5 of the six days. That being said, choice hotels comped me 25, 000 miles. That being said, I was not happy at all. There were many guest that day complaining about their rooms. This place is old, small, and dirty. Stay here if you want, but I'd never recommend this place nor would I ever attempt to stay here again.

Lots of free amenities for a low cost hotel in an expensive district. Parking is considerably cheaper than their competitors, the free breakfast is very good, and the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly.

Location is right in the middle of the downtown gaslamp district and you can see Petco park from the same street. Employees were very nice and helpful. Room was a little small but for two people it was perfect. Continental breakfast was included and it was not bad! Overall, great value for the price.

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! The rooms were tiny and did not look at all as the pictures posted by hotel. The bed was small and right next to the bed a very noisy and annoying air conditioner… Right next to the bed! I was not able to sleep a wink. I had to turn it off. So then I was super hot. I tossed and tossed all night. If you are thinking of staying here… don't! Pay a few dollars more and go somewhere else. You won't regret it.

Great staff and central location to everything in downtown SD. The room was nice but the walls were a bit thin to where I would be able to hear people walking and the elevator.

For the area, I felt close to all my needs and secure, even at night. I know this sounds like it's in a bad area, but it actually isn't. I would love to stay here again, when my travels bring me back to SD.

They offer lots of amenities. Didn't like the blood stained blanket. I let guest services know. It's walking distance to everything.

Way too much money for the space. We've stayed in motels cheaper and roomier. Anytime you can sit on your bed and extend your leg to touch your vanity is ridiculous. Especially for this district… these rooms should be $80 at the most and free parking. At least you could say then you got what you paid for.

Don't give them your credit card number! After sending me email (and phone) confirmation starting that I could cancel up to one day in advance of my stay without any fees, they charged my credit card a $560 two weeks in advance of my stay. I didn't discover the charge until after canceling the reservation a week later. When I called the hotel to report the mystery charge, they stated that it was a non-refundable "deposit" and had been their policy for over a year. They actually admitted that the charge had not been disclosed to me and other guests and that I was listed in their system as having the one day cancelation option, but they still wouldn't refund it! Now I have to dispute the charge with my credit card company and raise a complaint with choice hotels, and I am (or was! ) a member of the choice loyalty program!

The rooms were small, but we went on vacation there, not to stay in our room. It served its purpose. The bed was very comfortable, the room was very clean. It had Always been cleaned when we returned in the evening. Continental breakfast was exceptional every day. Great location for just about everything we wanted to do, a lot of stuff was in walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend, and stay there again if we return to San Diego.

Great price for the location. Within a mile's walk to many attractions — — fortunately, as parking in the area is very expensive. Can be noisy as one would expect for a downtown location. Earplugs are provided and running the fan on a low setting will eliminate the majority of it. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I've never stayed in a smaller room in my life. I stayed here for the free airport shuttle. Do yourself a favor: get a taxi someplace else if you have more than 1 in your party.

For the money, this is a great property at a great location. Be warned, based on the activities in the gaslamp district it could be very loud outside your hotel window. I stayed during the Mardi Gras celebration and it was very loud, but the hotel supplied some ear plugs and I went right to sleep. The rooms are small, but very well appointed with some nice touches like a free bottled water and popcorn, plus coffee pot and microwave. The bed and pilows were comfortable, sheets were a bit rougher than my liking, but you're not going to get a 10000 count Egyptian cotton at the Comfort Inn anywhere. The desk staff were friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.

Where do I begin: -This location had the worst customer service I have experienced with a hotel to date. (Ramada Inn around the corner was much more helpful and the hotel is much better looking aesthetically) -They were of no help when it came to the Marathon information. -They advertise that they offer a free shuttle, but come to find out, it ONLY goes to the airport. (they have since updated the messaging on the website) -Room rates are across the board (ie. We purchased a room for $139 a night, and the person behind us got a room for $129) -The Wi-Fi was to slow to even allow me to finish up my work. -And the Parking. They give us a number to park in, and we drive our vehicle in and find it is taken, so we ask for another one. That one is taken as well. So we finally just grabbed an open spot, and told them the one we were taking. The spots are so tight that you might as well plan on getting door dings unless you have a tiny compact car. -They charged me double for parking too! Needless to say, I would not recommend this hotel.

Stayed here over 4th of July weekend, had a terrific time, the rooms were nice and the staff was clean.

I'm currently trying to get a call back from Jessica Hao, the assistant to the G. M. I've been leaving voice messages and notes with the front desk for a week. She refuses to call me. She is there as I type this according to the front desk, but she WILL NOT answer the phone or call me. This hotel charged me a smoking fee when there was no smoking in the room. I understand that mistakes happen but that is precisely the reason customers are entitled to a call back if the manager is unable to answer the phone. She has not spoken to me ONCE to try to resolve this matter. I wonder if Cris Vasquez the GM is even aware of this. I guess I'll try him next. It turns out he is also the chairman of the Choice Hotel owners council board of directors. Perhaps he know a little more about customer satisfaction than Ms. Hao. We'll see.

Way over priced. Parking is way too expensive. Rooms are small. Rooms by city very noisy. Continental breakfast is good enough.

I made a reservation at this location for my wifes birthday. Of course my wife decided that she didn't want to go to san diego so, she called to cancel. Three days later I looked at my bank statement and to my surprise I was charged $335.96 and we didn't even stay there (for 300 bucks I would have been better off going to the Marriott). I called the receptionist and was told to call back multiple times. It is obvious that the people who run this place have no type of customer service or business ethics. For those who decide to stay there be aware because these guys will find any reason (or like in my case none at all) to take your money and it's like pulling teeth to try to get it back. Good luck.
