Nice hotel with a very good location. Breakfast at the sister hotel. If included breakfast: small paper bag with a sweet and a fruit. Not recommended.

Cons: Noisy hotel, poorly insulated from the outside and inside.
Breakfast to take outside "grab and go" very very light.
Plus: Access to the hotel pool across the street.
Close to Union Square.

How ever I have payed the room before I checked in, they have been keep pulling money out of my credit card. Especially in the night, without any explanation! Do not give your credit card information! However I checked out and got a invoice they just pulled $19, 94. I have already informed my bank and the police for those transaction… I’ll inform the agency I have booked this hotel… @expedia.

Trippy place! One feels as if they've fallen into the annals of literary-folk focused time travel — the rooms are themed per legend and then — stop- Frozen in time. Very authentic.

Reasonable price. Very expensive parking. Next to nothing breakfast.

I visited a friend who was staying here. Nice rooms and front desk. The location is near good venues such as bill graham.

Cute quaint quiet I meant to give them 4 stars because of the price but other than that it was a nice getaway.

Staff were friendly and gave good suggestions for attractions. The rooms were will equipped and the Wi-Fi worked well. The rooms were clean but the bathroom wasnot quite as clean as I would have expected and the shower did not have much water pressure. The location was convenient near the finance district and it was easy to catch a train or bus to other attractions.

Nicely appointed rooms and friendly staff. Hotel room was quiet and Wi-Fi worked we'll. On site amenities are limited but their sister hotel across the street allows patrons access to a pool, workout facility, bar/restaurant. The hotel itself names it's rooms after prominent people in San Francisco. While interesting in its own right, it also makes it easy to remember your room.

Clean and charming room. Furniture and amenities in hotel room were new. Great service at the front desk. Continental breakfast was wholesome and convenient (hard boiled egg, banana, cereal, and a fresh muffin — boxed and ready to go). Would visit again.

We paid about $135 per night for a room here and that is a pretty good deal for San Francisco prices. Not a lot of perks here, but it's got a good clean vibe and the rooms are themed after different celebrities. We stayed in the Hunter S. Thompson room, which had an old typewriter on the table and a caricature drawing of the man himself. Location is very good, we were able to walk to many art galleries and restaurants, we like being downtown. This area is particularly busy with homeless drug addicts, which may be a shock for some people who don't realize that America is falling apart at the seams. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Each morning we got a bag with breakfast in it. The breakfast consisted of a banana, a super-sweet granola bar, and a super-duper-sweet blueberry muffin. They are affiliated with the place across the street so you get 10% off breakfast there, and the food is very good. I think it's called K-OZ.

Very nice hotel and great staff. My card were for some reason not working when checking in. They were very patient and helped me throughout. Just don't waiver into the alley next to the hotel, too many homeless ready to jump you — stick to the 7th St.

And for that 280 €/night (incl. Parking)! WLAN does not work. Location is good and the staff friendly (they can do nothing for it), but prefer to look for something else.

Despite being an old hotel, the service and facilities are comfortable. Including breakfast within the room rate. You should update a little more decor.

Horrible customer service. We found water on the carpet in a corner of our room, with bubbling wallpaper above it. Changed rooms immediately, upon early check out (to switch to a cleaner hotel) they denied us a discount and claimed they could not find the water spot in the room. We went back up to the room with the manager, showed him, he was grossed out and washed his hands, still would not give us a discount and said they needed to investigate the room a bit more. Terrible experience.

The rooms are clean, room service is good. Toilet was broken so I had to hold it for 5 seconds at least to flush. So overall I would say good rooms (I take out one star for the toilet and the minimal breakfast box) expect a lot of homeless around the entrance, that is just the area not because of the hotel. I am giving 2 stars because of the woman at the front desk (her name is M**a). Made me feel unwelcome, poor communication skills, if this is how you start your day with non smiling faces then you should not be in the front desk, also remember that you are making the San Francisco experience for a visitor horrible because you are almost the first person the SF visitor will speak with. Based on my bad experience (could have been fixed with a better front desk attitude) I will never come back.

Very nice establishment located in an interesting part of SF. Clean, comfortable rooms & beds. Haven't had the boxed breakfast yet, as I need to get out the door about 6:30am, and it isn't actually available until 7, but there were hard-boiled eggs, coffee, and cereal bowls (but no milk — that I saw) before that. Access to the ameneties at the Best Western across the street (7th) is nice, and there is a jacuzzi on the premises. (2 floor patio. ) Rooms are named after local historical figures. I'd be happy to stay here again.

Comfortable and spacious for a 1 queen bed room with a pullout couch. We were surprised that there was no mini fridge or microwave, given less expensive accommodations have provided these in the past.

Our conditioner wasn't working. It pumped out heat. The maintenance guy's contribution was to say "It's hot in here". It was 95 degrees in our room when we got home from a play. The front desk offered us a fan which was never delivered. We slept with 2 little side windows open so we got bug bites, heard 3 drug deals and 2 trash pickups. For that, they were going to compensate us for $35 parking. Bad customer service! The whole room should have been comped, staff apologies, and a certificate for a free night to earn back our trust.

Nice spot in the middle of everything, it's cozy. I would stay there again.

This hotel put my credit identity at risk and provided the worst customer service I have ever experienced. My husband was traveling internationally with a stop in SF, and booked a prepaid room at the Carriage Inn. Upon check-in he provided the same credit card used to book the room to hold on file for incidentals. The clerk could not get his card to swipe, and rather than keying the card in manually or contacting his bank, the clerk informed my husband that, as per the hotel's policy, he would be denied check-in unless he could contact someone else to provide their credit card information. This resulted in a nearly $50 international call at midnight that my husband was forced to make, in order to contact me. I was asked to provide photos of my ID, my credit card, and an authorization form, all sent via email, all so that the hotel clerk could key in my card manually. We asked several times for an alternative or to speak to a manager, and were denied. Rather than risk my husband having no place to spend the night, I complied. This "policy" put my credit identity at risk, as images of my credit card were sent over unsecured email, leading my bank to cancel my credit card. A written account of our experience to management resulted in a perfunctory "thanks for your input" reply. A further request re: compensation/credit for the poor experience, or at the very least compensation for the international phone call charge, has been ignored entirely.

It was an easy direct walk to the Moscone conference center. You could go up Howard Street or Mission Street to get a straight walk there. Hotel was nice. The Continental breakfast was across the street at Custom Burger. The hotel gives you a coupon for each morning when you check in. Easy and good breakfast. Pool and fitness center are across the street at the Best Western. I never got to use either because they close at 9 and 10 respectively, and the spin off events for my conference kept me out later than that. Can't comment on them. The non fireplace king room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom and shower were nice too. Compared to the prices of other hotels closer to the conference center, this was a good price for what I got in the city.

Rooms are clean and comfortable, the Internet connection is ok and the price is right. However, the biggest quality of this place is the staff: even if I arrived late in the evening and I had a problem with the credit card limit, they were very welcoming and allowed me to complete the rest of my payment after a good night of sleep!

The people work here are super kind! The room was so cute and comfortable.

Service was great only problem we had was with parking and that we had to cross the street for the complementary breakfast other than that it's a good hotel.

Location could be better. Walking at night is alone is not recommended. The hotel needs to be refurbished. It seems they have called it boutique and gave it a theme as a reason for it being rather old and out of date. I recommend spending a few extra bucks and staying elsewhere.

The carriage inn is an OK hotel in a extremely scetchy part of a sketchy city. I came here on work and nothing opens till 7 everything closes early and homeless people are everywhere on the sidewalks. The hotel room itself was OK as it was clean and well kept the elevator was a bit messed up. The hotel has no amenities itself, instead they use the amenities of their sister hotel across the street.

Proof that good taste and good service is available without paying for a "luxury" hotel. Every room in the Carriage Inn is named after a famous San Francisco resident. I was given the Jello Biafra room — whether it was coincidence, or because of my tattoos and hair, I don't know — but I was happy either way. The rooms are gorgeous. Their designer was meticulous throughout the hotel, from the lobby to the rooms. Lots of patterns and colors co-exist throughout, without ever clashing or failing to work well together. Aqua paisley wallpaper, silver armchairs, brown patterned carpets and red & orange accents all somehow make a perfect harmony. My room had a Royal manual typewriter (working! ) with a bio of Jello Biafra typed on a paper in the carriage. There is a subtle but consistent typewriter theme (get it? "Carriage" Inn? ) throughout, including typewriter-key coasters, keycards and brochures with typewriter elements incorporated. Even better, the hotel will donate, with your permission, a small amount to a local charity which encourages love of literature and writing in children. The service was OUTSTANDING. Every person I talked to was not just polite, but incredibly helpful. They know the neighborhood and the city like the back of their hands, and I was made to feel like a guest at a $400 / night hotel, not a $90 hotel. On my second day, they had all remembered my name, and as I passed the lobby, I would hear a happy "good morning, Mr. Elliot.

The hotel is really appealing. Each room is different, but very stylish and lovingly furnished.
Location, led by regularly us two years ago on the way to the city centre of Comic characters and shady corners, but they are certainly everywhere. Nevertheless, the location is super and it is fast walking in the Centre.

Good location for visiting San Francisco. Comfortable, no noise, parking possible, but a little expensive. However no breakfast.
Do not let your postcards at the reception for the expedition, the staff love the stamps and cards never see their recipients.

Great hotel to stay in San Francisco. Friendly staff, big rooms and continental breakfast. I highly recommend it.
