The Whitby is exquisite. The front desk staff are welcoming and attentive. Whatever will make your stay perfect, just ask. There is no better hotel in NYC.

A wonderful afternoon tea experience. The tables are set with delightful china in one of the loveliest rooms in NYC. Exceptional service with the perfect assortment of finger sandwiches, scones, sweets and tea. There is nothing like an afternoon tea with the girls.

The best in this hotel. It is operated from a great woman designer! My my favorite person …. And the best manager bar Marcos! Great ambience and fine dinner!

Love this hotel is like my second home ha ha — breakfast and lunch. Before Covid were there everyday for breakfast or lunch — now is not that easy. My office is close to hotel.

It was my 1st time there. For a premier showing of THE BANKER. I found the place to be well kept upscale in decor different. I would visit again.

Beautiful surroundings — one of the best screening rooms I’ve seen in NYC. And the reception area outside of it is very cool — with great food!

Attended a baby shower "Tea Party". It was delightful. The tea sandwiches and pastries were wonderful especially the scones. Great atmosphere…

We usually have a great lunch here. The decor is very uplifting and interest!

The restaurant is rather elegant and the wait staff was “on top of it”. Delicious meal and awesome dessert.

A hidden gem. I saw it on the list for restaurant week. The meal, staff and atmosphere were all top notch. I want to go back and try the afternoon tea.

Classy bar, gorgeous design, terrific staff — Tina, Nick, Kennedy and manager Tess Are knowledgeable and nice — fantastic cocktails. The drinking isn’t cheap but the desserts are a bit of a bargain, too. Overall, the Whitby’s lobby bar is an elegant, funky and special place to be.

I have been to approximately 25 different places for afternoon tea and this was by far the WORST I have ever experienced. I am giving it two stars only because the atmosphere and service were both fantastic. The finger sandwiches were terrible and poorly prepared. The crust was haphazardly cut. One of the sandwiches was so awful I could scarcely choke it down. The presentation was barely acceptable. The tea itself was already over-steeped when it arrived at my table. This was an extremely disappointing experience especially for the $45 price tag. I have had afternoon teas for $18 which far outstripped this place. I don't know anything about the hotel, but avoid the tea at all costs. Try anywhere else.

The employees are wonderful and so sweet and the general atmosphere is welcoming. There’s a lot of funky decor that goes well together and and the food is so so so good.

Came here for afternoon tea and it was great. The service and food were good. Some people in our group ordered the 'healthy tea' it was nice but would for sure stick to the regular tea. It's nice to have that option but it's really more geared towards people with food allergies. Love the decor of the lobby at the hotel too, that clock is very neat.

I booked the hotel based on reviews. Never stayed in this hotel before but it's fabulous. New York hotels are hit and miss. This was a bulls eye and the people are so courteous and welcoming. The rooms are very well maintained and clean. The rooms are also very quiet. I would come this hotel again.

Very posh and luxurious spaces. Great customer service. I loved their tea room. I also loved the complimentary bath soaps and sprays. The price per night is very high compared to other hotels that are nearly as nice without a designer price tag. The price is the only thing that lowers my stars.

This place is lovely. I haven't seen the rooms, I've only been to the bar and restaurant area which, despite being rather new, is becoming popular with the locals (myself included). It's lively & energetic without being oppressively loud near the bar or dining area, as if it has the energy of a bistro without the noise. I might even call this place romantic in the back room. If you're looking for a quiet dinner, request the large room in the back.

Stopped in for the afternoon tea. Had a table within 30 minutes just as promised. Ordered both the regular tea and the healthy option and both were delicious however, the flavor explosions in the healthy option just blew us away. Will HIGHLY recommend this hotel restaurant. Amazing service and delicious made to order food. Worth every penny.

I booked afternoon tea at The Whitby because it seemed like the perfect experience to follow Downton Abbey: The Exhibition—especially since it was advertised as being a Downton-themed offering. The eclectic, boutique vibe seemed charming when my friend and I arrived for our reservation. Unfortunately, the charm pretty much ended there. Despite having a reservation, we were seated at a cramped corner table rather than the spacious separate dining room that had plenty of empty tables. Our tablecloth was visibly stained. The service was dreadful. It took over a half an hour for us to receive our food and during that time, our waitress did not come to check on us once. Nor did she apologize for the wait when our tier finally came. The food itself was a mixed bag. Some of it was good, but despite being presented wrapped in napkins, the scones were cold. And one of the desserts was very obviously stale. As for the Downton theme—it was not existent. The Whitby clearly just used it to get people in the door without putting any thought into the experience. The Downton exhibit had plenty of themed teas and biscuits that the Whitby could have incorporated, or at least renamed some of the teas to pay homage to the series. Overall, not at all an experience worthy of The Crawleys. New York has so many wonderful places to do afternoon tea. The Whitby is unfortunately not one of them.
