Bed and Breakfast

Perhaps we caught Terry and Terri on an off day, but our stay was a bit more of a mixed bag.
First, the good. The renovation in the main house is exceptional. Interior designers should go here and study it. Each room is spacious with modern bathrooms, yet they've integrated antiques from the area to provide character. They've carried their love of records into the rooms and the record room downstairs. It strikes the perfect balance between having character without feeling old. The common spaces are lovely and spacious. There are thoughtful touches like a gorgeous pool table or copies of popular board games made to look like books. There are only five rooms. Larger parties could rent the whole property and have a great time.
On the downside, there was no pre-arrival communication, and they didn't take the deposit on the schedule that was stated during the booking, so we weren't even sure we had a reservation. We had to call to confirm. There was no one at the property the day we checked in. Maybe this is okay at a AirBnB, but I would expect coverage by someone at a luxury B&B. I felt like we were breaking into someone's house. As a result, we barely interacted with hosts and it just felt like any other hotel room. Maybe we missed out on a few things, but then again, there was no one to show us around.
I also wasn't a great fan of the location or the grounds. Some of it feels like a work in progress.

What a beautiful, welcoming place! We have been coming to the Berkshires for many years, and Granville House is now our favorite b&b. The interiors are stylish and welcoming, with a delight to the eye everywhere you look — amazing music memorabilia, books, vintage farm equipment, and Danish modern furniture that works beautifully in this antique home. Outside are comfortable porches leading to access of wildflowers and lawn with breathtaking views of the mountains.
Our room was elegant, spacious, and inviting. Beautiful decor with no fussiness. Actual linen bedsheets — wonderful! The thickest, softest towels imaginable. So many thoughtful, hospitable touches.
Granville House’s gracious innkeepers, Terri and Terry, have clearly put their hearts, creativity, and plenty of hard work into this lovely b&b. We felt very cared for and enjoyed meeting them and their family. Can’t wait to return!

This is a fine example of an exemplary bed and breakfast:
— The owners, Terri and Terry, are hospitality veterans who have created spaces that are personal to them, thoughtful, comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. The common areas and bedrooms are all lovely and there are wonderful outdoor spaces on their porch and their lovely back garden.
— We found the Great Barrington to be a great base for exploring The Berkshires as it is reasonably close to Jacob's Pillow, Tanglewood, and MASS MoCA.
— As a relatively small B&B, it is quiet and so provides a sanctuary to guests.
— The space is configured so that you can source your favorite eats from the area and dine in comfort at your Granville House base if needed.
— Breakfast is not an afterthought. Everything is delicious and homemade, and their olive oil muffin "appetizer" is a memorable item. We still need to steal the recipe.
In short, a lovely B&B in a scenic and interesting location. What's not to love?

I've stayed at many a bed & breakfast in the US, UK, and Canada, and Granville House is one of the absolute best. The decor is stylish and cozy, with public spaces that feel instantly welcoming. The spacious bedrooms include every possible comfort, plus creative touches like record players and colorful books. The breakfast, served in the beautiful paneled dining room, is divine, and three crackling fireplaces keep the cold at bay. (And it was VERY cold during our stay! ) Terry and Terri are warm and attentive hosts who have created a true home away from home for their guests. I cannot recommend Granville House highly enough and I look forward to visiting again — in all four seasons!

Terry and Terri are the ultimate hosts of this beautiful, extremely well maintained property. We were in Room 3–super comfy king bed, lovely sitting area and great shower. Coffee maker and good size fridge in the room and we enjoyed listening to some vinyl on the in-room record player. The weather was rainy, but that made for cozy reading in the front sitting room by the fire. Breakfast was delicious. I just can’t say enough good things! Also great to not have a TV in the room. What a wonderful surprise! We will definitely be back to enjoy this special place in a different season. Oh, did I mention that THE church from “Alice’s Restaurant Thanksgiving Day Massacree” is across the street? Very cool.
